Just seen the renders of the Alpine Vision GT and it has equal parts sexiness and equal parts madness - so obviously very French. Just too good.

Fly swatters, ad boards, or that thing deployed to keep out those pesky guys swerving around and changing lanes such that they get featured on Jalopnik.

Seriously though what do these do. It must be air brakes but surely if youre racing people will just hit it?

And Jean Rédélé turns around in his tomb... How dare they use the Alpine name for this monstrosity???A shame really. The a110-50 was quite wrong already, but this one takes the palm.

Signed: 30 year old kid who has grown up with a proper Alpine A110 1600sc in his father's garage... Car that will be his one day.

Explain. If the answer is a "[insert car maker] have to be [insert vehicle category]" answer, I won't be satisfied.

They are using a name that belongs to nimble RR rally based sports cars. They make an oversized futuristic track car using the now dead name of the company they bought almost 30 years ago and abandoned thereafter, solely to provoke some kind of nostalgia among aficionados of the brand

Yes it's crap.

And no, Jaguar does not make econoboxes. Neither does Ferrari. They have standards to observe. Same for Alpine a small artisanal company based in Dieppe, that has nothing to do with this monstrosity.

They want to make an Alpine prototype? Imagine a slightly more powered rear engined miata, capable of casual fast off road. Now THAT sounds alpine-like!

What does this thing has to do with ANYTHING even remotely related to the name Alpine?

How about the mid-engined, V8 powered A220 and to an extent A442 Le Mans Prototypes?

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

The VGT was clearly inspired by those two cars, mixed with some familiar styling elements of the earlier Alpine road/rally cars.

I was waiting for this... the A220 or the A442 or all the other racecars made by Alpine were purpose built racecars. Built to race. This is not built to race. It's just a designer that has apparently ZERO knowledge of what Alpine was, that builds a futuristic racecars that will never come out of a videogame. It does not belong to any racing serie, nothing... It just exists

This is just a blatant use of an historical name for no other reasons than "buzz". Renault hasn't used Alpine for many years until they came out with the A110-50 that was a roadcar also (therefore nowhere near the heritage of Alpine).

This thing was built as an advertising tool on Gran Turismo, it might as well have come out on the next Wipeout for all I know... This is not a racecar, this is just a marketing tool, by the designers of the Twizy. And just that means a lot.
